Story
our build
We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to operate a childcare center in Renfrew and want our efforts to honor the Renfrew Baptist Church, the Renfrew community and all of our future families. Our desire is to build a centre that we can all be proud of.
The question we ask ourselves is will parents want to stay here? If not, why would they send their kids to us? The building is where our services operate out of and if the building itself is not adequate then we're already starting off on the wrong foot.
Kevin the Builder...
Not only is Kevin our business manager and in-house photographer, but he has also poured his blood, sweat, and tears into the construction of Little Roots Renfrew.
He is the mastermind behind all the remodeling of the Renfrew building to make it bespoke to the needs of our Little Roots families and the vision behind it. After his initial project with the original Little Roots, he was excited to pour all his knowledge and skills into Renfrew to make it exactly what we need it to be.
When we first acquired the building - it was hard to determine the state of the building on the initial walkthrough.
It wasn't until Kevin started to peel back the layers where he realized there was a lot more than meets the eye.
On this project. Kevin had to completely tear down the rebuild the entire kitchen, both upper and lower washrooms. The whole house had to be repainted along with new trims, new doors, lighting, plumbing, fencing and so much more.
Kevin chipped away at this monstrous project for 3 months, sometimes working 7 days a week to meet project milestones.
We are so grateful for his hard work and dedication and are excited to show you the fruits of his labor.

Honorable Mentions.
These are the spaces that made Kevin contemplate his life decisions.
One of the most challenging spaces was the downstairs washroom. The goal was to add more toilets and sinks for the kids but to also convert the current laundry room (next door) into a staff washroom.
The bathroom has already been stripped and the flooring removed.
Out came the concrete saw and jack hammer to carefully dig down 14". We had to expose the plumbing to run new connections for an additional kids and a staff toilet. We dug under the wall to run a new connection for a staff toilet. There were a lot of rocks!!!
Our friends from KO Plumbing came and did the new connections and venting for us. Afterwards, we backfilled and concrete the opening.
Here is the completed washroom minus some bits and pieces.
It was a fight to get this space done but we know it will be well-used by kids and the staff.
The kitchen was one of the first spaces Kevin worked on. Kitchens are the hub to a home and it was a space that Kevin wanted to use as a standard for the other spaces. The entire kitchen was demolished and had to be replaced.
Kevin designed this space to be open and bright. We wanted the staff of Little Roots Renfrew to enjoy being here.
The Kitchen
To Chris:
In so many ways, I can't fully express how grateful I am for your help and dedication to this project. From excavating the basement bathroom to staying up past midnight to finish the plumbing when my arms were sore with an inspection the next day, and even painting the entire house, your support has been invaluable. This project wouldn't be a success without you. Thank you for your hard work and positive energy you bring everyday.
The Story behind how Chris came to work with me:
I was deep into the kitchen renovation project and had a clearer picture of the work that lay ahead and asked God if there was anyone to help me. Almost immediately, I felt a strong conviction to call Chris.
At that very moment, Chris was on his way back to Calgary from Trinity Bible College, just passing Calaway Park. I reached out to him to see if he had any plans for the summer and whether he might be interested in helping with the construction of a daycare. To my surprise, he agreed without hesitation.
I was taken aback by his swift response and suggested meeting for coffee to discuss the details. Chris, however, insisted that a meeting wasn’t necessary—he was in.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that during his drive home, Chris had been praying for a summer job. It seemed that my call came just when he needed it most.
Was it just a coincidence? I don’t think so. After three months of relentless work, I couldn’t have completed the project without Chris's invaluable help.
